Early Pregnancy

Early pregnancy is an amazing time filled with great transformation. However, it can also be a time of difficult challenges for a new mother if she has issues with:

  • morning sickness

  • threatened miscarriage

  • exhaustion

  • anxiety

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help support women through these times by easing symptoms, and strengthening the newly pregnant mother as she transitions through this period.

Throughout Pregnancy

As little baby grows and develops so does mother's body.  It is during this time an expecting mother may experience new aches and pains as well as some common syndromes.  Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can help alleviate many of these including:

  • hip pain

  • hemorrhoids

  • sciatica

  • heartburn

  • constipation

  • urinary tract infections

  • itching

  • depression

  • insomnia

  • sinusitis

  • pregnancy induced hypertension

  • edema

Labour Preparation & Birth

It is recommended to come in for a few sessions before your due date for "cervical ripening" in which acupuncture points are selected to help prep the body for labour.

However, as labour approaches, there are a few specific acupuncture techniques that can be done in cases of:

  • malpresentation and breech baby

  • induction if baby is overdue

More and more women are committed to having natural births without medications or pain medicine. Whether you are having a home or hospital birth, consider making an acupuncturist part of your birthing team. Acupuncture during labour can assist in:

  • labour augmentation

  • pain management

  • optimal fetal positioning
